2007 CHRISTMAS LETTER
——————————————
Happy Holidays December 2007
In a vain attempt at humor in the 2006 letter, I wrote, “I’m still writing and producing songs for the American Idol winners…” Funny? Maybe. Wishful thinking? Sure. Prophetic? Who knew…
2007 has been quite the year. Here’s goes the recap…
Kids. Still have two. It’s a good number.
Tobey, our 4th grader, just made the Honor Roll at school. Besides studying six hours a day, she spends her time reading (Nancy Drew, Harry Potter), riding her bike, doing art projects, and honing her skills on the Wii and Nintendo DS. Tobey performed with Show Biz Kids this year, and wrote and recorded her first song, entitled “Freeway” – an inspired piece about riding the bus.
Tyler, aka Crazy Legs (due to his solid dance skills), loves the 1stGrade and is involved in two accelerated groups at school – Brainiacs and Weird Science. In addition to his osmosis studies, he’s working on his budding acting career – bringing to life characters from Harry Potter and Star Wars around the house. He loves Legos, T-Ball, Nintendo DS, and all things Wii. He’s currently reading Captain Underpants (by himself) and has learned to fart on command. (His mother is so proud.)
Katy is the breadwinner these days as her Southern Living At HOME business continues to grow. She won Circle of Excellence Awards for both Sales and Sponsorship this year, and earned trips to the Bahamas and Cancun. (She let me join her on the latter.) And she bought me a new car! Way to go Kate! This master multi-tasker is still involved in a weekly Bible Study, works with the kids at our church, and still somehow found time to go on a cruise with her mom.
As for me, I wrote a song with my pastor, entered it in a contest, and ended up in Hollywood for the American Idol Finale. It was all an amazing experience – but I think my favorite part was watching Katy work her magic at the after-parties. This year included travel to 25 states, a Christmas Tour, quite a bit of songwriting, and a Food For The Hungry board trip to Bangladesh. Oh, and I wrote a Grammy-winning tune – it just hasn’t won yet. (Hey, why not…might as well aim high again.)
Other highlights in 07 included tickets to the Final Four (thanks Coby), our summer trip to Black Butte Ranch, and an incredible journey for Katy and the kiddos to North Dakota to visit family and experience a harvest. And last but not least, we ventured down to Santa Barbara in October for Katy’s brother Doug’s amazing beach wedding. Welcome to the family Linn!
We recently found out that Katy’s mom, Phyl, has been diagnosed with cancer. She has an ever-positive attitude, and we’re all very hopeful, but we do covet your prayers.
Hug your loved ones this holiday. Enjoy the moments. And soak up all the Peace you can this season.
Merry Christmas,
Scott, Katy, Tobey & Tyler
